Shifting Generational Needs

One of the constants of our industry is that we serve every generation at some point. While we are still deep in serving the Baby Boomers, it’s time to start thinking about the needs and preferences of younger generations.

According to this NewsWatch story, younger generations are taking a more proactive approach to death care planning at a younger age. This is attributed to a couple of different thoughts.

Pre-planning Can Ease Later Burdens
Taking the time to pre-plan allows for people to make decisions without being under stress or pressure. It also allows one to make plans based on their own wishes without leaving heavy decisions to grieving loved ones. And most of all, pre-planning is an opportunity to lock in today’s prices. Topics like personalization of plans and easing later financial expenses are high on the priority list for younger generations.

Younger Generations are more Tech Savvy
Having your information upfront and available online is very enticing to younger generations. They are very likely to scroll and save information when it’s offered online. They are also much more likely than older generations to make large purchases and plans online. In fact, in many cases, they prefer it.

Emotional and Mental Well Being
Younger generations place a heavy emphasis on mental wellness. Being able to have all of their end-of-life plans in place, whether for themselves or their parents, can be seen as a way to significantly reduce the stress and uncertainty of decision making once a loved one has passed. Knowing everything is planned and ready provides great peace of mind.
